The present was a book from the school library which they had to read over summer. Lots of my favourites of course! Tomorrow I will run the staff meeting and get everyone to talk about their book. I have had more than one teacher tell me that this was great - it MADE them read a book! And more than one teacher has said this is the first book that they have read in a long time... How can you teach when you donot read? I am now writing pages and pages and pages of "series" notes to educate my teachers. I have a long way to go with the teachers with their (lack of) knowledge about authors/series/where to next with their students in the library but it is a start!!Kimberley https://www.blogger.com/profile/17146156270002756428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3937289800667706411.post-67353920050920604632011-11-13T12:28:34.801-08:002011-11-13T12:28:34.801-08:00Fiona, I really appreciate having an update so soo...Fiona, I really appreciate having an update so soon after an Exec meeting. I've just read through the original posts, and I totally agree with you - these 10 essential skills for the future are really closely aligned to the skills we are trying to give our students. As you say, the challenge is to make our teaching colleagues aware that we have a lot to offer.

My first step will be to alert all our staff to the original blog post and get them thinking about this set of skills. If I can also link this in their minds to things that I do, like giving guidance on website evaluation, for example, maybe I can have them make some connections between what I do as a librarian and getting students to think critically and collaboratively. I'd be really interested to hear of any other ideas though. As you say, it's a huge task, but well worth the effort of taking some first steps.

Carole GardinerAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3937289800667706411.post-60257100413374015782010-11-18T14:35:21.173-08:002010-11-18T14:35:21.173-08:00Just a reminder that the approx. cost for earlybir...Just a reminder that the approx. cost for earlybird registration for members will be $400.

If you intend to stay at St Cuthbert's allow approx. $60 per night which will include breakfast.

Prices for the conference dinner are still being worked on.

Kind regards,
Kaaren Hirst,
Convenor,
SLANZA Conference 2011.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3937289800667706411.post-57459134353576833952010-11-16T21:31:49.941-08:002010-11-16T21:31:49.941-08:00The home page now has the conference logo, and a l...The home page now has the conference logo, and a link to the conference page, which can also be found under the group of pages headed "What we do". The toilets that give us problems are the boys, and the solution is for us to only unlock them during breaks and lunch, which means we have to remember to lock them again. Seems to be working though, not nearly as offensive as in the past. The lift is finally working after several days of nagging, I was able to fix the dodgy printer myself, and our combination Library and Sports registration week is bedlam! But we are seeing students in here that wouldn't normally come, so it is worth it. Have a great library week and keep up the great work on this blog.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03489520168403118666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3937289800667706411.post-86747829297568553742010-08-16T20:54:33.096-07:002010-08-16T20:54:33.096-07:00Sounds like a fairly intense day! our library week...Sounds like a fairly intense day! our library week is combined with international Language week so is alternately hectic or non-existent! So far we have established that boys will find out if there's food in the library even if no-one advertises the fact, and that Chinese chess is harder than you imagine!
Blind-dating with books up for Friday.....we'll see how that goes.Suehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02686013306691007176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3937289800667706411.post-60450999355438253052010-08-10T17:18:26.776-07:002010-08-10T17:18:26.776-07:00Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to gi...Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to give us comments on our new Connected magazine.
